Learning Outcomes to be assessed

- Identify and solve decision problems related to the various operations functions, like capacity, demand forecasting, project management, and inventory control.

- Differentiate the different techniques and use the appropriate technique in problem solving within operations management.

- Analyze and appreciate the influence of the strategic initiative programmes in Operations Management,
e.g. MRP, JIT, SCM, TQM etc.

The group will have to choose an organization in Oman, visit the organization and collect information relating to the following aspects in the organization.

- Forecasting process in the organization
 - Definition of forecasting
 - Some information about forecasting.
 - Advantages and disadvantages of forecasting
 - Explain how the chosen organization uses the forecasting, where in the choose Organization use the forecasting, give at least 4 examples (very important).
 - Summarize interview findings

- TQM in the organization
 - Definition of TQM
 - Benefits of TQM
 - Elements of TQM
 - Explain TQM in choosing organization (very important)
 - Summarize interview findings

- Supply chain Management in the organization
 - What is the supply chain
 - How supply chain helps any organization to get more profits.
 - Explain supply chain in choosing an organization, cover all areas from raw materials to final consumer.
 - Diagram or flowcharts for supply chain in choosing organization.
 - Summarize interview findings.

The answer to the assignment should be elaborate and should include the practices of the company in the organization chosen. Each concept should be explained properly and sufficient data should be provided to support the statements. [ Important]

- Tips for the interview:
- A minimum 15 quse on of interview : 5 quse about Forecasting process in the organization, 5quse about TQM in the organization , and 5 quse about Supply chain Management in the organization.
- Interview must be approached professionally.
- Set an appointment (date, time and venue). Be flexible and fit into the schedule of the interviewee.
- Use the most appropriate method of note taking. Make sure your device is working, if you are using a device to take notes. Always carry a note pad and a pen.
- Send a reminder to the interviewee a day before. Be flexible if changes in appointment are made.
- Rehearse.
- Reach 20 minutes before the scheduled appointment time.

Part I Group Report.

Group report should disclose consolidated results of group work on the task.

1. For the assignment students are expected to refer to library resources.

2. Total words count should not exceed 2000 words.

3. The report should contain:

Cover page, which indicates title, names of students, name of instructor and date and place of submission (students can use provided template);

Table of contents;

Acknowledgement: Thank all thos who have helped in completing assignument.

Opjective of the assignument:

Methodology: -Primary and Secondery sources
-Interview(definition of interview, advantages of using interviewa,as a research tool, and aim of your inyerview)
-Literature (sources)
Introduction, Short brief about the organization choosen. Briefly describes the project using the details asked for.

Discussion, description of the main points with proper in-text references;

Conclusions that reveal main findings regarding each point and challenges faced during completing the assignment;

Recommenations:

List of references (using Coventry Harvard style of referencing);

Appendices if needed (appendices are not included in the main report words count);

4. The report should be done in Word, font size 12, font style Times New Roman, text color black, colors can be used ONLY in appendices; main body of the report should be black and white.

5. Report should be submitted through Moodle ONLY on time, any delay will lead to deduction in total marks.

Part II Presentation

Each group shall make a presentation for 10-15 minutes. Presentation shall reveal the group work results. The contribution of each student should be clearly disclosed.

Care should be taken that duration and content of all the group members is uniform.

A Power Point presentation may be made. Avoid unnecessary pictures on the PowerPoint. Present relevant information point wise. Writing big paragraphs on the power point and reading directly from the Power point slides directly is not acceptable.

Presentation is schedule on week 11 during the class time. Presentation is compulsory and there will be no repeat chances for presentation. Students who are not present during the group presentation day and time will get zero mark for the presentation.

The marks for presentation is 25 and will be scaled down to 5.
