Discussion - Demographic Revolution

One of the areas we did not talk about so much in the last course (Building Community with All Stakeholders) is the "demographic revolution" that is taking place.

As you read the journal article, "As Diversity Grows, So Must We" by Gary R. Howard, ask yourself whether you believe your school community-both inside the walls of academe, and beyond those walls to a greater community-- really sees the need to be culturally aware.

For example, what training might your custodians, your front office staff, and your bus drivers need?

Sometimes, as this article points out, even the diverse language skills of students can be frustrating to those people as well.

As you reflect on your own community, do you see areas where multicultural competence may be lacking? If so, how will you meet the needs of your greater community?

Your initial responses should be between 200-250 words.

The initial posting should be a statement of your point of view on the question, supported by the required readings.
