EDUC 5311 Human Growth and Development Course

One common mistake that some educators often make is to assume that children's mind work in the same way that adults' do. One of the major contributions of Piaget's theory to education is the assertion that children's thinking process is qualitatively different than that of adults'. Your task for this assignment is to interview a child whose age is three to ten (inclusively). Choose one of the conservation tasks depicted below (number, length, liquid, mass, area, weight or volume). Then interview the child for the conservation task and determine whether the child is at "Preoperational Stage" or"Concrete Operational Stage" of cognitive development. For a sample interview, watch the Conservation Task video posted under this week heading. Report the summary of this interview including the stage of the child and how you reached that conclusion. Use your own words.
