Multicultural management in the virtual project setting

Your task for Week is to prepare and hand in a proposal in the form of an outline including a selection of one of the three topics, the nature of the project, some of the sources of information that you plan to use, and the most important concepts and techniques associated with the selected topic. You will receive feedback on the proposal from the instructor in Week 6, which will give you time to make adjustments.

For your final project, you should select one of the following topics:

• Multicultural management in the virtual project setting,

• Human resource management in multinational enterprises, or

• Marketing to multicultural audiences.

(Please, write the topic you have chosen at the headline)

Please, notice that the project proposal should be in the form of outline. However, you or other writer will continue working on the final project on the next week after receiving the feedback from instructor.

The purpose of the final project is to examine an issue of multicultural management in greater depth, providing an analysis of the ways in which theory and practice influence management decisions regarding the issue. The analysis and evaluation of the issue you select must be based on the concepts that you acquire throughout the module.

Completion of the final project will require a thorough understanding and application of multicultural management concepts.

The purpose of the final project is to apply the concepts and techniques of the module to the analysis of real-world situations or problems. Students are expected to use diverse sources of information and to carry out an original analysis rather than summarise or rehash existing work. Students are encouraged to use situations and data from their own experience where possible.

Learning objectives:

This week, you will learn about the following topics:

• Communication across cultures
• Language design in the multinational enterprise
• Cultural dimensions of e-communication and knowledge sharing
• Marketing communications
• Brand identity across cultures

Introduction:

This week, you will continue to recognise and empathize with the cultural background and values of colleagues of different nationalities, ethnicities, and religions.

You will also recognise and deal with the cross-cultural issues and tensions that may arise in international communications, negotiations, and projects by considering the various components of business communications and knowledge sharing in a multicultural context and by identifying important principles and guidelines when communicating with an international audience.

You will also recognise and suggest solutions for the particular problems that arise in international firms with regard to marketing management, and recognise and suggest solutions for ethical problems that arise in international business by analysing key issues for managers when attempting to develop global brands that resonate with and respect multicultural audiences.

The recorded lecture begins by considering a framework for addressing issues related to communication, and then examines the particular aspects of cross-cultural communication that should be taken into account by businesses. It then addresses topical issues such as e-communications, knowledge sharing and global marketing efforts. You can play each section as many times as you like and also read the text version.??This week’s Discussion question will allow you to show mastery of the learning outcomes:
