Assessment: Risk mitigation strategy report

Assessment Description

Reports and studies provide students with an opportunity to conduct research into real world events, organisations and organisational practices and to draw relevant and critical judgements and assessments.

Students are required to choose a particular multinational firm to investigate. The risk mitigation report will then consist of two main parts.

- The first part involves identifying and critically assessing the key risks for the multinational firm posed by exchange rates, especially with regard to commonly used international financial instruments.

- The second part involves developing a risk mitigation strategy consisting of mechanisms and approaches the multinational firm might adopt to mitigate the challenges identified in the first part.

The risk mitigation report should be presented as a formal report of approximately 2500 words.

The theory and topics covered in MBA612 should be applied to the chosen multinational firm. This is in addition to any other independent research and analysis that is undertaken.

Suggested Report Structure

The report should contain an executive summary no longer than 10% of the total report. The executive summary is written for people who do not have the time to read the entire report, and need an outline that presents the main findings and the conclusions. The purpose of the report should be outlined here and a brief summary of the findings included, as well as any recommendation you may have. The next section should then, in more detail, identify the company and its main business activities and most importantly how it operates in an international environment. Relevant factors such as how the international operations affect the firm should be explained.

This will vary depending on the firm being looked at. Information from all relevant sources needs to be included, especially annual and other company reports. Given the exposure identified, the second main part will then investigate the approaches for mitigating the identified risks, using the tools and analysis covered in class, but also from other sources as well. Finally, the conclusion contains any recommendations made, and these should be justified using the appropriate theory and models. Any assumptions you have made should be identified and explained.

Limitations of your analysis should be identified. A list of references consulted when doing the case study should be included. The case study should be completed in Word, and then converted into a pdf document.
