to assess students' knowledge about contemporary issue of marketing

as a diagnostic test of the students' writing and referencing skills.

Essay Topic

"Marketers are not doing enough in directing their target markets toward sustainable consumptions"

The students are required to respond to the statement above and write the responses in an essay format. The points of this assessment are to test students' knowledge on contemporary marketing issues as well as to provide students with an at-risk assessment.

The aim is to give students an early assessment with feedback to identify students who are at risk of not achieving a pass in the subject
This assessment will allow lecturer/tutor to work with the students and provide early feedback which they can take on board for later assignments. If necessary the student may be referred to the learning support unit for further help.

As the assessment asks for the opinion, the arguments need to be supported with reliable sources of information. It is expected that the students will cite at least 4 references. Sources that can be used, for example, include the textbook and refereed journal articles.
Please refrain from using internet sources like essay.com. marketing.com, seminar slides, dictionaries, about.

In addition, at KOI copying from a source without proper acknowledgement is severely penalised as leaving paragraphs and sentences without a citation.

Although the key aims of this task is for lecturers/tutors to see the strengths and possible areas of improvement with the students' academic writing, the students should strive to write in as clear a manner as possible, using well-constructed paragraphs, and avoiding bullet points, incomplete sentences, or overly formal or informal language.

Personal branding describes the process by which individuals and entrepreneurs differentiate themselves and stand out from a crowd by identifying and articulating their unique value proposition, whether professional or personal and then leveraging it across platform with a consistent message and image to achieve specific goal.

In this way, individual can enhance their recognition as expert in their field, establish reputation and credibility, advance their career, and build self-confidence. Personal branding is important for any individual regardless of the fields they work in.

This assignment will require the students to develop, refine and deploy their "personal brand" through the most appropriate social media channel to support them in finding a job (if they want to be a professional) or business prospect (if they want to be an entrepreneur) after graduation.

There are two parts for the assignments:

Personal Branding report

Personal Branding presentation

Personal Branding Report

Step 1: the students need to think about the job (as professional) or the business (as entrepreneur) they want to pursue after graduation. As the first step, the students need to investigate the requirements/qualification for the job OR business, they can consult Australian job portals for this.

Step 2: Once they have clear idea of the future job OR business they want to pursue after graduation, conduct research on their personal online present (they might want to google themselves for this), evaluate whether or not potential employers/business partners would get the right impression, why or why not?

Step 3: the students need to investigate FOUR social media platforms which might be suitable for publishing their profile, choose two of them and justify the choices.

Step 4: Set up profile on the chosen social networking sites as selected in point c above

Step 5: Write a report about the above findings (point a to d).

Suggested Structure of the report

Section 1 : Description of future job OR business prospect

Section 2 : Self-Analysis

Section 3 : Social Networking Profile

Section 4 : Conclusion

Pls refer to SO for more details.

Personal Branding Presentation

Presentations should be a "sales pitch" covering the main elements of your personal branding as in point 1 above. All students must participate in the presentation. While it is not expected that they will "dress" for the presentation, students should make an effort to look clean and tidy at least.

The presentation should be NO LONGER THAN 5 minutes. Presentation exceeding 5 minutes will be asked to stop. It is strongly recommended that the students prepare their presentations well in advance of the presentation date, and make some effort to practice their presentation. This will improve the presentation overall.

The students should use any visual aids they need to "SELL" their ideas to class. More involving (better) presentations use more than just a set of power-point slides.
