Children and Poverty:

Many factors contribute to the academic achievement of children. One of them is socioeconomic status. There is research showing that the income achievement gap between high and low-income families is growing, as well as the achievement gap. Studies show that the rich-poor achievement gap is very evident when students start kindergarten. One study found that children of upper income families had spent 400 more hours on activities that had to do with literacy than lower income children. Poor students are less likely to attend preschool; they start school with limited vocabularies and experiences, and struggle to catch up to their more affluent peers.
