Making achievement-related attributions

A subject that appealed to me is making achievement-related attributions. Attributions are our common everyday explanation for the causes of our behavior. The topic states that those who are confident with their academics and motivation make mastery-oriented attributions and that is crediting their success to ability and they seek information on how best to increase their ability through effort and attribute failure to factors that can be changed or controlled like lack of effort or task difficulty. This has taught me how to find the causes of my outcomes, internal causes like ability and effort and external causes like task difficulty, luck and help. I believe that ability is fixed but this topic has taught me that effort plays an important role for me to gain success and through effort I could increase my ability, as in the topic, it mentions that learned helplessness children fail to connect effort with success. From now onwards, I should not attribute my failures to my ability and when I succeed, I should not say that external factors such as luck are responsible. Instead I should say that my ability caused me to succeed, even though it was effort. With that, I am able to feel more confident in my academics to gain success. To boost up my self-esteem, with task difficulty being controllable, I could choose a challenge that evenly match my ability to get a better outcome. For instance, I would choose to play a game with someone who has the same level of ability as me instead of playing with a professional gamer. With that, I am able to get a more positive outcome instead of losing at every round.
