Name of experience:

Age range of children:

How the educator promotes this learning

2) Research one of the following conditions:

  • Autism
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • ADHD
  • Diabetes

From your research of your topic, answer the following questions:

1. What are the common characteristics of the condition you have been chosen?

2. If a child with the condition entered your service, with the characteristics you have described, what strategies would you need to implement to ensure the needs of this child are met?

3. How would you support the parent of this child?

4. What changes would you make to the environment?

5. What additional professionals or specialists would you consult with?

6. What education or support would other staff and educators need?

7. How would you support inclusive attitudes and practices of other children attending your service?

Note:

  • This research will be typed separately and attached to your assessment booklet.
  • You may choose to add diagrams or graphics to illustrate your research.
  • Ensure you include a bibliography or reference any web sites you may have used.

3) Make an anecdotal observation of a child aged between 3 and 9 years. Your observation should aim to highlight an example of the child either scaffolding another child or being scaffolded by a peer.

When you have completed your observation analyse what the educators did to promote this type of learning.

4) Record an example of an instance when you have encouraged a child to persevere at a difficult task to achieve success.

In your record:

  • What the child was doing?
  • How did you determine this task was difficult for the child?
  • What did you do to encourage the child to persevere?
  • How did the child respond and react when the task was complete?

5) Record an example of a time when you have used children's observations and views to guide your program.

From your research write a report answering the following questions:

2. What are the fundamental beliefs underlying the philosophy?

3. How was the philosophy implemented?

4. What parts of this philosophy do you think might influence your own work as an educator in early childhood care and education services?

7) Practical Assessment:

Create an interest centre whilst on prac based on an interest you have observed or learned about from the children in the service.

You can choose to create this learning centre indoor or outdoor, on a table or floor or in any way that you believe will be attractive to the children and encourage their involvement and participation.

Talk to your supervisors about the best position for this interest centre and consult with them about its suitability.

Aim to have the interest centre on display for a least a week.

Attach a photograph og your interest centre.

You will also complete the following table based on your interest centre.
