magnus effectin a moving fluid a rotating

Magnus effect:

In a moving fluid a rotating cylinder drags some of the fluid around with it, in its direction of rotation. This enhances the speed in that region, and therefore the pressure is lower. As a result, there is a total force on the cylinder in that direction, perpendicular to fluid's flow. It is called the Magnus effect.
