Possession Under $5000
Situation: On Tuesday 12 July 2022, Jill Smith had her new $4000 mountain bike stolen from Centennial College. She reported this to the police. That same day, Jim Green, posted the stolen bike on Kijiji for the low price of $200.
On Wednesday 13 July 2022, Martin Brown responded to the bike ad and met Jim Green near 1234 Danforth Ave., Toronto. Martin bought the bike, with no questions asked, for $200, as he knew it was well undervalued.
Later that day, at about 4:30 pm, the police stopped Martin Brown for an HTA violation. During the course of the investigation, police discovered that the bike that Martin had was reported stolen. Martin advised the police how he had purchased the bike. The police subsequently arrested and charge Martin Brown with Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000.
