Is there theory that explains why authors opinion is wrong


Assignment task:

Firstly, all students have different learning styles, some students learn better face to face, while others don't have trouble adapting to online learning. And because of these differences, it caused some students to fall behind tremendously.

In paragraph 7 and 8 Joseph G.Allen shares "the harms to kids being out of school, on the other hand, are severe (Paragraph 7)." One million students expected to be in school didn't show up in person or online at all..." In agreement with these statements, some students just didn't show up at all, they simply didn't have the motivation to complete assignments, as they would have if in person.

According to LA Times, A women by the name of Marla Williams, a working single mother, she enlisted her father, a retired teacher to supervise her children's studies. It didn't work. Causing her son to lose motivation and wouldn't do his assignments. And once he when back to a hybrid schedule in spring 2021, he started doing well.

Question:

Is there any theory that explains why the author's opinion is wrong, or is the paragraph just a discussion of some examples?  Does the writer merely say that the author is wrong?
