Iron 3 oxide and aluminum powder form an extremely violent

Iron (3) oxide and aluminum powder form an extremely violent reaction (called Thermite) when burned together. This is an oxidation reduction reaction. One of the products formed is pure iron. Determine what element is getting oxidized. This reaction is used by the railroads to weld tracks together in remote locations to make the iron to fill the space between tracks. Once the reaction starts, it cannot be stopped and will melt anything in it's path - even the two rails together!

1. the oxygen is getting reduced

2. the iron is getting reduced

3. the aluminum is getting reduced

4. the iron is getting oxidized
