Incorporate the five core job characteristics

Question 1

Team based Gardener and Sales Representative: I chose this because this has more of an extrinsic motivational concept built for it. I say this because extrinsic motivation is simply motivation from reward and fear of getting consequences. Since the primary role of this job is to "provide oversight and encourage both the gardener and sales representatives to increase sales to reach projected target growth". To start with the reward concept you could create a commission based salary for all employees. Nothing is more extrinsically motivating than money itself. This would create higher motivation and create much more dedicated employees and also would negatively impact employees who are not working as hard as they should. This system would ultimately create a system that would filter out employees who do not work hard and would only leave you with a strong dedicated team.

We chose the regional sales manager job. We will incorporate the five core job characteristics of high intrinsic motivation for better job performance. The first core job characteristic is skill variety, where a job is motivated by various skills and abilities. Regional sales managers will be in charge of evaluating, motivating, providing feedback and setting goals for local sales representatives, acquiring shelf space for POS displays, keeping open communication with clients for feedback and reporting sales data to the Vice President of sales. The second core job characteristic is task identity; task identity promotes motivation by requiring a job to be executed from beginning to end to see tangible results. Regional sales manager will be assigned with weekly objectives and sales goals to keep them motivated. The third core job characteristic is task significance, where a job is motivated by the effects it has on people's lives in or outside the company. For people inside the company, regional sales managers will be motivated by greater sales contributing to company growth and for people outside the company, motivation from client satisfaction. The fourth characteristic is autonomy; granting regional sales managers freedom and self-discretion in scheduling and designing procedures according to how they feel is best for completing the job. And the last characteristic is feedback; feedback is information on how effective the regional sales managers have been at performing their job. Feedback information will contain sales data and a job performance evaluation from Vice President of sales. Feedback will encourage higher sales goals, greater customer satisfaction and job improvement.
