Assignment: PAPER ESSAY:

For your paper in this class, write a synthesis responding to the following prompt:

The readings for this unit have discussed food insecurity in a variety of contexts. In your papers, discuss the major issues to be considered when educating yourself about food insecurity on campus and in your community. Do some investigation on your campus or in your community to locate resources for people who are experiencing food insecurity.

Use 4-5 sources (listed below) to discuss the major issues; locate your own sources (1-2) to provide resources for people at SDSU or in your community who are experiencing food insecurity.

Your audience is professors/students in a 4-year university; assume they have not read the texts. The format is 4-5 pages, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, MLA or APA style. Please bring a printed copy and submit the paper.

Successful papers will:

• Include an effective introduction that gives a general overview of the topic for the reader.

• Have a thesis statement that indicates the main idea of the essay

• Be organized around the issues that the assigned readings explore.

• Include effective body paragraphs that clearly state each issue and provide information about them with evidence from the assigned reading.

• Report on the resources that might be available to SDSU students or to people in your community.

• Include a conclusion that restates the main points and explain the importance of the issue; why is it significant? Who can benefit from this knowledge? What might be the consequence of not paying attention to campus or community food insecurity?

• In addition, with your final draft, for your own sources (sources not listed below), submit the first page (title page) and any pages from which you take quotes or paraphrases with any quoted or paraphrased material highlighted.
