Educational media, including television, computers, and the Internet, are features of most children's lives in industrialized nations. Watching educational TV is associated with gains in early literacy and math skills, but heavy viewing of entertainment TV detracts from children's school success and social experiences (Berk & Meyers, 2016).
In this Journal writing exercise, answer the following questions with a minimum of 1-page (250 words):
What are your thoughts about young children's exposure to electronic media?
What are the pros and cons of exposure to television, computers and mobile devices, and video games?
How much and what kinds of TV viewing do you think are appropriate for a child in the early childhood stage (ages 2-6 years)?
