Improving Joints and Connections - Energy Loss

Improper joints are a source of energy loss in both overhead and underground systems. The conductivity of joint should not be less than an equal length of the conductor. Joints should be capable of carrying maximum fault current without failure or deterioration for the time needed for the protective system to operate. The life of the joint should be equivalent to that of the conductors without deterioration either mechanically or electrically.
