Important for compensation to be motivation

Assignments:

Assignments are deliberately wide-ranging and broad in scope. This allows you to explore generalities that relate to your situation. While it is possible to come up with incorrect answers, there are also many, many ways to address each case study correctly using good HR practices.

You may choose to write each Applied Assignment with your team or on your own UNLESS your team has been selected to present on this Applied Assignment (each team will present on only one applied assignment per semester). If your team has been selected to present, you must complete the paper as a team, and the team will receive the same grade for the paper and the presentation.

• Assignment should be roughly 3 to 5 pages in length (more or less is acceptable if content is good) and should provide any background that is necessary for the reader to understand your project as well as a summary of your actions and expectations for your situation. Papers should be written in APA format, double spaced with a 12 point font. Reference pages and title pages may be included in the paper, but will not be included in the page count.

• IF YOUR TEAM IS CHOSEN TO PRESENT - the Applied Assignment presentation will be given in class and must include input/participation from every person on your team. Some form of visual aid is required (Power Point, Prezi, poster, handout, role-playing, skits, interpretive dance, etc.).

• Only ONE copy of the paper and ONE copy of the presentation (if applicable) should be turned in. Team Captain is responsible for turning in assignments via D2L. If you are working together but not chosen to present, designate someone (preferably Team Captain) to turn in the written assignment.

• As always, assignments will be graded on Content, Clarity, Creativity, Critical Thinking& Correctness (grammar, format, spelling, punctuation).

Case Study - Pay Day:

different from their compensation package. That is why it is important for compensation to be motivating, Compensation is the reason why people work, and everyone wants something equitable and balanced for employees.

Three Thirty-One Enterprises has a new client:

Father McBride, the chairman of the Board of Trustees for St. Calpurnia High School in Lee County, Florida has contacted us asking for an overhaul of the pay and benefits structure at this small private high school which is struggling with a new budget.

The staff consists of a principal, assistant principal, 25 teachers and coaches, and 15 support staff (janitors, cafeteria workers and administrative assistants). All the staff need to have their "total rewards" and compensation packages reevaluated as the budget for all salaries and benefits must be decreased from $2.1 million down to $1.7 million.

Create a compensation plan that details pay and benefits for these employees based on the budget designated for compensation while keeping everyone happy (if possible). Remember to consider all types of equity and compensation in your plan so that you don't lose good staff to other schools that can potentially offer more. If you need more information, email Big Shoe and he will get the details from the client
