Implement an electronic medical record system

Problem:

Prepare a statement of your research question including problem statements (hypotheses) and research objectives. Remember that applied business research is neither informative research, aka a term paper, nor theoretical research, aka a thesis, although there is some theoretical research done for business reasons. Applied Business Research focuses on solving business problems by answering targeted questions that lead to making informed decisions. In this paper you will identify one question that must be answered to make an informed decision to solve the problem that you present. Provide some background information to help the reader to understand the nature and the relevance of the question. This process should focus the research, providing guidance into the nature of the results and the data that will need to be gathered in the research process. Data in this sense is focused on the supporting documentation in the type of topics that will need to be included from the journal articles that you will need for support. You will be graded on the succinctness or your presentation and the completeness of the background support for the problem under consideration.

Sample of what I need, an introduction then business problem, thanks

Introduction:

Family Medical Center is a rural medical practice located in Commerce Texas. The practice involves two doctors, who are brothers, and a number of advanced practitioners, PA’s and NP’s. The practice has been located there for approximately 20 years. They service a large number of patients from the area. To support the practice, they also hire 4 personnel who serve as the office staff.

Currently, all records are stored in a paper based filing system in a traditional format. This approach involves enormous storage space for the current records and the expense of large archival storage. It is time consuming and difficult to research the past history of patients because of the immensity of the storage complexity. It is also expensive to continue providing storage for such a large volume of records, but it is mandated by law that all patient records are to be maintained for the life of the patient plus seven years.

Business Question:

The physician owners would like to answer the following question: Should we implement an electronic medical record system? It is understood that there will be an expense associated with this project. It would also involve a major change in the way of doing business.  Some employees would have to be trained in the new system and others would have to change jobs or be unemployed when the new system comes online.

The following are hypothesized

1. The new system will enable them to search the patient history more efficiently.

2. The new system will save money in the long run.

3. The new system will prevent inadvertent errors of patient care.

4. The current staff will be able to learn the new system quickly.

5. The new system will enable the practice to file medical claims more accurately.

6. The new system will enable the practice to file medical claims more easily.
