If you consider an orange led and create a set of energy

1. If you consider an orange LED and create a set of energy levels (i.e. the energy level diagram of a semiconductor) that is consistent with the observed spectrum of the diode, you would obtain a diagram similar to the one shown below. For this energy level diagram, use the energy axis (in J) to determine the minimum energy separation between the valence band and the conduction band. This is the bandgap energy. Record this value as the bandgap energy (in J) and calculate the wavelength of light associated with the transition (in nm).

2. In your laboratory notebook, draw an energy diagram for a semiconductor, which is similar in style to the one given in question 3 (but you will change the specific transition). Then on this one energy diagram, draw to scale the transitions showing the absorption of a blue-green photon (4.0×10-19 J) and the fluorescence (emission) of a red photon (3.0×10-19 J). Make sure to adjust the energy diagram (i.e. the single conduction band and the single valence band) on the scale to represent the magnitude of the photons in this question.
