Discussion Post: PICOT in the Development of a Nursing Research Question
Clinical Case: 81-year-old woman admitted to the Emergency Room from a home for the elderly. The client presents with symptoms of painful urination with frequent voiding of urine, fever 38°C with lower back pain. The doctor diagnoses UTI (urinary tract infection) and prescribes antibiotic therapy. The caregiver asks if an additional probiotic can be ordered, in order to avoid diarrhea associated with the antibiotic that the doctor prescribed.
Using the previous clinical case, perform the following exercises:
• Identify the clinical problem presented in this case.
• Formulate a relevant and specific research question using the PICOT model.

• Explain and justify how the scientific information found can answer the PICOT question that you formulated? Cite supporting or disapproving arguments from the authors you identified in your search, following the most up-to-date APA guidelines.
