Identify issues and variables associated with literacy


Within this module you will develop an understanding for supporting disciplinary literacy relative to reading, language processing, and the learning process in any given area. Moreover, you will learn how to support understanding of concepts across the disciplines. You will gain access and develop strategies as well as tools for supporting language processing/reading to learn and conceptual understanding in the learning environment. You will be able to reflect on how the elements within these strategies and tools map back to what is known as effective instruction and design of learning environments. Beyond the content presented, you will be able to identify strategies and research for supporting understanding of disciplinary literacy and/or reading/language processing to learn.

Expected Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

• Identify issues and variables associated with literacy as well as the understanding of concepts across the disciplines

• Discuss the importance of supporting disciplinary literacy as well as the understanding of concepts across the disciplines

• Identify methods for supporting disciplinary literacy as well as the understanding of concepts across the disciplines

• Discuss how the strategies for supporting literacy as well as the understanding of concepts across the disciplines map back to what is known about effective instruction and environmental design.
