AdamAdam is a child in your group and is an energetic 3 ½-year-old boy. Adam has been recently assessed forattention challenges and you are awaiting the results and consultation with his parents and the ResourceConsultant.Adam is very verbal and uses his words frequently with the other children. He is very sensitive and can be kindto other children. It means a lot to him to have a friend to play with or work with. He has two or three closefriends in the group but has had trouble lately with social experiences. He seems unusually shy and quiet forextended periods. He has become somewhat resistant to your verbal directions, especially during times in theday when he appears stressed or uncooperative.

This morning, Adam wandered around the preschool classroom not engaging for more than a few minutes ineach area. He then walked to the block area where 3 children were busy building structures and engaging inoccasional cooperative play. Adam sat down and proceeded to take some Lego blocks and build on his own.He reached over to take some wooden blocks from another child who objected loudly. You observed theinteraction and thought this situation would escalate based on Adam's previous behaviors. You went over andhurriedly said, "Adam, you need to wait to play with the others as they are building quietly".

You then felt someheightened stress as you anticipate Adam's reaction. The morning had gone very well until now and you hadhoped it would stay calm. Adam made an angry face and you then said "Adam, what did I say, you need towait or leave the block area".At this point, Adam became more agitated and your ECE room partner said to you "want me to help with him?""Yes please, he is just not cooperating today and it's stressing me out" you reply moving to another area.
