Identify conflicting perspectives that exist in passage

Assignment task:

Read the narrative text. Respond to the question that follows.

Samantha and Robert have been best friends since childhood. They both had different personalities but complemented each other perfectly.

One morning, they were studying for their upcoming biology exam in the school library when they overheard their classmate, James, bragging to another student about cheating on the last exam.

"I can't believe James is cheating," Samantha whispered to Robert.

"Yeah, it's not right," replied Robert with a worried look.

"I think we should tell the teacher about it," Samantha suggested.

"What? No way! We can't get involved. It's not our problem," Robert argued.

"But it's unfair to others who worked hard to get good grades. And what if we get caught knowing that James cheated and didn't do anything about it?" Samantha reasoned.

Robert sighed. "I don't know. I don't want to get involved. What if James discovers we told the teacher and gets mad at us?"

"That's a risk we have to take. We should do what's right," Samantha insisted.

Robert hesitated for a moment, then nodded in agreement. "Okay, you're right. Let's go talk to the teacher."

They walked down the hall and knocked on Mrs. Hassan's door. After a brief conversation, the teacher thanked them for bringing it to her attention and informed them that she would investigate the situation. Walking back to the library, Robert said, "I hope we did the right thing. I don't want to lose a friend over this."

Samantha smiled. "I don't think we will. True friends always respect each other's values and choices. We did what was right, and James will have to face the consequences of his actions."
