Identify and explain the evolution of a social problem

Assignment Task: The Evolution of a Social Problem

In Chapter 2 of your text, Henslin conveys the importance of developing your sociological imagination (also known as sociological perspective). The ability to do this helps to understand how personal troubles are connected to the broader conditions of society. When personal problems have a strong connection to societal needs, a social problem will evolve. Sociologists are able to examine these social problems by analyzing the history of, influences on, and theories that guide the interpretation of the social problem.

Assignment Directions:

1. Identify and explain the evolution of a social problem. Additionally, you will explain how each sociological theory relates to your identified social problem.

2. In one paragraph, describe a social problem. Explain at least one objective condition and one subjective concern for that specific social problem.

3. Identify the three main theories sociologists use to explain a social problem. Then, provide a explanation of how each sociological theory can relate to your identified social problem.
