Welcome to Social Studies curriculum planning for preschool children. An underlying focus of this course is a theme-based and integrated curriculum. In Unit 1, you were introduced to the ten Social Studies themes as defined by the National Council for Social Studies. Throughout the course, you will learn about the themes and corresponding early learning standards for preschoolers through 3rd graders. Thematic Lesson: During Units 2 through 4, you will design a theme-based lesson for young preschool children. This will occur in three parts. Part 1: Your Unit 2 assignment is to identify a theme for your Social Studies lesson. In this assignment, you will identify and submit your chosen social studies theme. In identifying your theme, you will also need to identify the ages or grades of the children. Instructions: Please submit a theme that will serve as the basis of a lesson you will be developing. Theme suggestions include, but are not limited to: All About Us Community Helpers Transportation Saving Our Planet Your State Local Bodies of Water A Cultural Group Your City or Town Note: You may identify your own theme.
