Identify a set of scenarios to test the system level

Topic: Software Engineering

Question: After a challenging development cycle, you have fielded Augie, the augmented reality app for your IPhone and Samsung Devices. As you may remember, Augie will allow you to point your phone at a building and get basic facts about the building displayed on the screen. If it is a restaurant, you can easily call up the menu and see the wit time for a table. If it is a place of business, you can call up the business website. If it is a home for sale, you can tie into the details of the house.

1. Investors are getting queasy as they have heard of "problems". The lead investor has requested you fully test the app before they put any more capital into the project.

a. Identify the components of the app. Define specific activities and their sequence to test the functionality of each component. Identify resources and time required for each individual test.

b. Identify a set of scenarios to test the system level functionality. Identify the required time and resources for each scenario test. Define specific test activities.

c. Display the sequenced steps for a and b in a Gantt chart.

d. How much will the testing cost? Show your reasoning.

2. To further increase the investor confidence, your team decides to show how reliable the system is.

a. Describe specific steps you have taken in the design and implementation to help avoid design and programming errors.

b. Describe specific steps you have taken for verification and validation (specify which steps are for which activity) to discover and remove faults in the app.

c. Describe specific steps you have taken to design in fault tolerance into the app.

d. The Reliability, R(t), of a component or system is defined as the probability that the component or system remains operating from time zero to time t1, given that it was operating at time zero. What is the reliability of Augie for 1 month. Show your calculations.

3. The last activity the lead investor has asked you to do is to revisit the resilience in the app. Identify app specific activities for the following:

a. Reinstatement.

b. Recognition and resistance.

c. Recovery.

d. Testing.

4. Create a UML 2.0 class diagram that shows the major classes in the design of the Augie software. The diagram will show the classes with their associated attributes and methods, the relationship between the classes and classes that have been added for resilience. This class diagram should represent all of the functionality described above before problem 1.

5. Create a sequence diagram for one of the user scenarios in 1.c using the class diagram in problem 4. Sequence diagrams for this problem have classes and messages between them. The messages trace back to the class diagram.
