Respond to at least two peers, providing substantive feedback regarding how they applied the concepts of social care, social control, and rehabilitation services to the identified problem. What additional points might you include?

I found that the self-assessments are a useful tool that I can reflect on when applying the Code of Ethics to my everyday life and when working with clients. Like in chapert1 of the self-assessment it appears that different answers were chosen the ethics course like my taking the assessment and a red flag came up where some of my responses were not compatible with the Code of Ethics. This assessment provides me an opportunity to enhance my ethical practice to develop an action plan when needed. For example, in addressing challenging ethical conflicts arise as they do when dealing with offender's I will be able to understand how I can access resources to deal with the issues at hand.Self-reflection and insight is crucial in my field while working with the judicial system especially in difficult areas such as sex offenders because I found that some sexual offenders have been victims themselves. When dealing with multicultural and diversity issues is even more crucial because culture is a strong part of people's lives that influences their views, their values, their worries and fears. Learning this pointed to another red flag for my self-assessment so I cannot pretend that this does not matter

Red flags will go up when dealing with confidentiality and if I do not handle client's case properly I am not showing my ethical practice....Dorothy S

The code of ethics will be the best tool, or should I say the road map that you must follow to be successful in the profession of human services.

What surprised this learner about this self-assessment test was the question that stated "Gay and lesbian clients are best served by gay and lesbian counselors". (Corey, Callanam, 2011). This learner totally disagree, if you work in the field of human services, your position is to serve all people regardless, as stated in NASW 1.05 Cultural Competence and Social Diversity: (c) Social Workers should obtain education about and seek to understand the nature of social diversity oppression with respect to race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marriage status, political belief, religion, immigration status and mental or physical disability. (NASW, 2008)

Any weakness that the learner may have, will need to be worked on, because she can not be effective for the client if she has issues herself. This learner will do what she has to do to make sure her clients get what hey need to be successful citizens in the community.

This learner will learn to determine my future professional needs, by continuing to seek educational training, that will help her gain more knowledge on different strategies that will help her serve the clients as certain issues arises, but if she cant figure it out, she will continue to search until she does.
