Huma 1301 why did you choose these tactics why do you think

Protest Final

Over the course of this semester we have examined many protest movements spanning the 20th and 21st centuries in these United States. While we are far from experts, I am confident that we all are now more knowledgeable on the subject than when the course began. Using this knowledge, I want you to, hypothetically, design your own protest movement.

The topic of your protest movement can be any current issue-police brutality, housing affordability, student debt, antiwar, marijuana legalization, issues with the government, religious/moral issues, etc. The choice is yours as long as you can logically write about it at length.

NOTE: As humans, it is natural for us to have differing opinions on potentially controversial subjects.

Know this: your opinion, even if it differs greatly from my own, will not affect your grade, only your ability to articulate this opinion. If you can demonstrate an understanding of your topic and back up your claim with academically recognized sources, your grade will not suffer (even if you are wrong ).

Whatever issue you choose, the following topics must be covered in some way:

You must layout your plan of attack: what is your strategy? What tactics will you use? Why did you choose these tactics (why do you think they will work)? Have these tactics been used before? If so, by whom?

What is the history of your issue? Why is it a problem?

How does the public feel about your issue? Will it be difficult to get supporters?

Are there other groups working on the same issue? What are you doing differently?

What are your short-term/long-term goals?

Who do you think might join/participate? Compare to similar groups, unless your group is original.

How do you expect the target of your protest to react?

Use in-class examples where applicable.

Choose one (1) song OR poem that feel represents your movement and explain why. If you can't find a song or poem to represent your movement, feel free to write your own.

Paper requirements:
