Global Health Infectious Diseases in a Global Context
Directions: Choose a country other than the United States to research an infectious disease. The paper should be typed, 12 font, 2-5 pages, including pictures (optional) and references (required). Describe the infectious disease, including the following points:
- signs and symptoms
- modes of transmission
- how is the disease detected/diagnosed
- segment of the population most adversely affected
- consequences of untreated illness
- types of treatments available (is CAM used?)
- length and cost of treatment (time and money)
- financial impact of disease to individual, family, country
Other questions:
- Does another country offer aid to the country under study to combat the disease?
- If yes, what is the form of assistance?
- If no, what has the government in the country done to control or prevent the disease?
- Is the disease considered endemic, epidemic or pandemic?
Note: Organize the paper to show that each point has been addressed, using subtitles or a separate paragraph. The information may also be presented in a table format.
