How you will use the elicited responses in your term paper

Term Paper Discussion

Answer the following question

• In preparation for the Term Paper: Reengineering the Course Enrollment Process due in Week 10 of this course, read the project statement provide for the term paper: "Consider Strayer University's current process of enrolling for courses through the use of the Web. Suppose that the University has contracted you to reengineer the enrollment process that considers the Web and other modes of input. The expectation is that you will gather information from current system users, analyze the collected data, propose a solution, and provide a requirements document. Assume that your professor has been tasked by the University to be the stakeholder for the reengineering of the enrollment process.

• Assume further that you are the analyst that will propose and document the system-as-is and system-to-be." This discussion thread has been setup by your professor so that you will post questions for the professor as the stakeholder for questions pertaining to this project.

o Summarize the proposed system-as-is that will be used in your term paper. Create at least five questions for the stakeholder (your professor) with regard to the current system and reasons for selecting them.

o Create at least five questions for the stakeholder (your professor) with regard to the proposed system and reasons for selecting them.

o Describe how you will use the elicited responses in your term paper.

o List at least five quality resources you plan to use in the term paper. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources

Summarize the proposed system-as-is that will be used in your term paper.

The proposed system-as-is consists of logging into iCampus, clicking on "Enroll for Classes" button, and selecting the quarter and type of student (i.e. grad or undergrad). Next, the student has to choose what campus they want to take the courses at. They can choose between their home campus, local campuses, or both, all within a 60 mile radius. Following the campus selection, the student chooses what courses they want, which are specified with their prerequisites, and clicks continue. On the next screen, the student is presented with the available course sections from which they choose from. When they select a section and click continue, they must confirm the courses they want to enroll in and finish the enrollment process.

Create at least five questions for the stakeholder (your professor) with regard to the current system and reasons for selecting them.

1. What are the goals of the current system which are not being met? (To determine goals and objectives that were not implemented in the current system)

2. What are the key challenges in during the enrollment process? (To determine unchecked obstacles or risks that need to be incorporated into the new system)

3. What is the most difficult aspect of the current system for instructors? (To determine weaknesses of the current system from the perspective of an instructor)

4. What functionality would allow users an easy enrollment experience? (Determine gaps in the enrollment process which is not addressed by the current system)

5. Are there issues with the current system when a student wants to replace a course? (To determine if the enrollment process should be separated between enroll for classes and replace a class)

Create at least five questions for the stakeholder (your professor) with regard to the proposed system and reasons for selecting them.

1. How can the enrollment system be improved for students, faculty, and staff? (To find areas that need improvement)

2. What new functionality should be available to the student, instructors, and staff during enrollment? (i.e. Should they see who is teaching the courses?)

3. What platforms should the new system be compatible with? (To determine other platforms, such mobile devices, that the new system should be compatible with)

4. Are there new features that should be implemented with the enrollment process (i.e. ability to conduct degree evaluations, see available courses for future quarters, etc.)

o For example, when I was a student at George Mason, I was able to use their Patriot Web to register for classes, see who is teaching various classes, and conduct degree evaluations to determine eligibility for other degree programs.

o Are there features similar to the George Mason example that should be implemented in the new system?

5. How should the new enrollment system integrate communication with success coaches? (To determine how the system should integrate success coaches into the process of enrolling for classes)

Describe how you will use the elicited responses in your term paper.

The elicited responses will be used to create a set of operational system requirements, which will be validated by the stakeholder. When the requirements are complete, correct, and consistent with stakeholder needs and expectations, they will be re-stated with measurable objectives so that they can be used as functional requirements in technical specifications. These technical specifications will be used by the developers to create prototypes in a research release so that the project team can determine that the right system is being built.

List at least five quality resources you plan to use in the term paper. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
