How you envision the power for love model working


Problem: Authors Goggin and Strobel state that the proper exercise of power is when it is used for love, and the improper exercise of power is when it is used for the sake of control and dominating others. Their book specifically notes that Jesus used His power by giving up that very power and serving others. According to Mark 10:42-46: "whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant...slave of all." However, in terms of applying this to a capitalist, for-profit business, some might say this is a bit naïve when the owners are seeking to rise above their competition by exerting power and being leaders in their field. They might ask how they can accomplish such goals by "loving" those with whom they compete. If you were to be engaged in such a business, please explain how you would address those reservations, and how you envision the "power for love" model working for your enterprise. One of the central concepts of the book is that power is properly exercised through weakness and being meek. We are called to proclaim that without Jesus, we can do nothing, and we should regard ourselves as "the meek who inherit the land
