How would you deal with this situation how could you

1. Can a manager be both a friend and leader to those he or she leads? What potential advantages would there be to being a friend as well as a boss to those you lead considering the drawbacks that could potential arise? How could a boss monitor their communication with those they lead to make sure to avoid any negative outcomes?

2. You are the manager of a team of 20 individuals. One of the team leaders (a good friend) on your team explains to you that he will now only do the minimum of what is required to keep his job. He explains that he has goals outside of the organization and will do only what is required but will no longer perform at the level he has. Keep in mind that the entire team looks to his example and he has been a driver for organizational initiatives on the team that you have relied upon. Also consider that he will still be doing all that was required of him for his job position, he simply will not be going above and beyond as he has done in the past.

3. How would you deal with this situation? How could you motivate him? What type of leadership style would be best for him?

Compare and contrast one content and one process theory of motivation. In your opinion, why would two people with similar abilities have very different levels of performance? If you were the manager, what would you do and why?
