1) Are you able to directly access the experiences of others? Why not? How do you determine what another person is experiencing? Why might we be skeptical about the claim that everyone sees the same colors? What kind of assumptions do we make when we conclude that someone is experiencing pain or tasting something sour?
2) If a scientist looked at your brain and saw the neurons firing while you were eating chocolate, would he be perceiving your experience of chocolate? Why or why not? What would make one believe that our experiences are not just physical states of our brains? What is physicalism? What does physicalism hope to show about our experiences?
3) How would a dualist reply to physicalism? Can we add up physical parts to reach a mental whole? Why not? What is the "dual aspect" theory? How does the "dual aspect" theory view our brains?
