How workplace writing differs from academic writing

Assignment Problem:

We describe how workplace writing differs from academic writing you may have done in the past. To build on that idea, I've chosen a short reading that highlights the limits of how academic writing is taught in schools, and how writers really work and learn outside the classroom. This is particularly relevant as we start to build skills in workplace writing. Read the short document called "Our Writing 'Crisis'" (Warner 2018) attached to this journal entry and answers the questions below. To make it easier, cut and paste these questions into your journal entry. Write in full, grammatically correct sentences.

This reading highlights the limits to the ways that we are taught writing in school. What main point about writing does the author wants us to take away from this short essay?

Are any of the author's points about writing and education familiar to you? Have you experienced the approach to writing instruction that he is critical of? What has your experience with this been like?

What program are you taking at Humber? What has drawn you to this area of study? Are there any specific types of writing that you imagine you'll need to do in your future career? What are they?

What writing skills are you most confident about, and what would you like to improve or develop?

Is there anything else I should know about you? (ex. your personal pronouns, preferred name, or anything else that might affect your learning this term)
