How we all should work together despite any differences

Problem: Explain how the ideas shared in your peer's post are connected to what you already knew.

Discuss one new idea you got from your peer's post or how their post changed your thinking.

(Peers post): The topic I chose to discuss is racism.  Racism can be defined as discrimination against people based on their race, gender, culture, or religion.  The article I read focuses on the history of racism in early childhood programs.  It was stated that "racism was seen because most higher positions were held by whites and people of color were not invited to serve on committees" (Allen, et al., 2021).

This topic resonated with me because racism is still evident in this day and time.  People are discriminated against all the time, but I feel like as an educator, racism should never happen especially in a program that is designed to help children, or in a classroom.  I have seen firsthand where a qualified African American was passed up on a higher position to a person of another race.

As an educator, I will never allow racism to happen in my classroom.  I will teach lessons about culture and diversity emphasizing how we all should work together despite any differences.  I will always make sure my students feel safe and that each one of their families is equally special. I will also teach the children I work with to respect each other in everything we do.
