Assignment task: I need to reply/add to this and have page numbers or paragraph numbers with the citations.
My topic 3 Executive summary topic is reducing nosocomial infections using a hand hygiene program and infection prevention and control regulations. Nosocomial infections result in poor health outcomes for patients, increased risk of hospital readmissions, and increased healthcare costs to treat the infections (Schattner, 2023). Minimizing hospital-acquired infections should thus be a priority for healthcare organizations. To create the effective hand hygiene and infection prevention culture, all relevant stakeholders like social workers, all nursing staff, and nurse managers need to be involved. Infection prevention and control measures such as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), sterilizing of healthcare equipment and promoting proper hand hygiene can greatly reduce the spread of infections. Cole and Barnard (2021) highlight that hand hygiene programs are one of the simplest but most effective method that can yield effective results if the nurses and healthcare professionals comply with the guidelines outlined by WHO 5 moments. The WHO 5 moments were designed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to minimize the risk of infections transmitting between the patient, the healthcare worker and the environment by targeting the 5 high-risk points of transmission. The 5 moments of hand hygiene include before touching a patient, before a procedure, after a procedure, after touching a patient, and after touching a patient's environment.
