How to process the cognitive psychology

Assignment Task: Need a reply

I unfortunately still do not have my course text because I was unable to locate the digital textbook, but my hardcover should be in by the end of the week. I looked up some psychological models in the meantime and I am hoping that what I found correlates to the readings. If not, I sincerely apologize.

One of the psychological models that I was able to locate on the internet was 'cognitive'. "Cognitive psychology is the scientific study of the mind as an information processor. It concerns the way we take in information from the outside world, how we make sense of that information" (Mcleod, 2015). To my understanding, cognitive psychology is the understanding of how we process.

This model can be applied to 'lessons learned'. When we do something "wrong" or make a "mistake" the goal is usually to learn from that. We take what we did incorrectly, process that information and find a way to do it better the next time. This applies to all aspects of life as it does to all aspects of aviation. In a 2019 article written by Eric W. Dolan, he suggests that cognitive psychology research has shown that pilots might be learning the wrong lessons from their close-calls. "New research provides evidence that two common cognitive biases could impact pilot's perception of past events in ways that adversely affect how they make future decisions" (Dolan, 2019). He goes on to discuss that what leads to the decision is just as important, if not more important, that the actual decision itself. Sometimes, when processing something that has gone wrong, especially very wrong, we tend to only remember the decision itself and not all the factors that lead up to that point. Therefore, we can't handle the next challenging situation better than the last because of what we have processed. Also, just as we process "wrongs" or "mistakes", we also process the things we do "right" or "correctly" and these also have effects on follow on behaviors.
