RESEARCH ON YORK COLLEGE

Author

Introduction

York College is considering establishing a project that will incorporate its alumni. As a worker in the Alumni Association, it is important to maintain close ties and contact with the Alumni of the college. The main purpose of establishing connection with the aging alumni is to seek for their support in donations and also to induce them in marketing the college to others. An Alumni project is very effective where there are enough contacts and where the alumni are willing to cooperate. York College is struggling to find contacts of its alumni and their income bracket. An age bracket has to be defined since the project is targeting the old alumni. Furthermore, there are statistics that have to be evaluated before they can be enrolled as prospective alumni. Their gift statistics and job titles have to be analyzed, and their values and home locations assessed.

The aim of this research is to contact as many alumni as possible and review their information. The topic of this research will be "York College's Older Alumni". This is effective since the research will not focus on all alumni but on an age bracket that will only comprise of the old. York College is in the industry of education and it therefore expects most of its alumni to have specific job titles. This research will be intended for those old alumni that meet the set criteria. The college hopes to gain new entries each year but the question is the necessity of some of the assessments and evaluations (Donald & Schindler, 2013). The college needs funding in some of its projects and relying on old alumni would be a good idea as the college expects them to have settled in their different careers.

Ethical Considerations

Ethical considerations define how the alumni will react to this project considering the evaluations and the assessments. Many people in their old age prefer to live a reserved life. This research will interfere with this life since their locations, job titles and income brackets will be assessed. The main ethical issue will be keeping this information private. Furthermore, not all alumni of York College have the required categories to be incorporated into the project. Many would feel the criterion being used is not right and justifying it would not be easy.

There have to be informed consent from the alumni to allow the college to initiate the project. The association will gather personal information regarding the demographics of the alumni and without consent; this could lead to legal proceedings (Donald & Schindler, 2013). The alumni know the purpose of this project, how the project is funded and how the finding will be used. The participation of the alumni should also be voluntary and they should be allowed to withdraw any time as they desire.

The participants of this research have to also be guaranteed that it will not harm them either psychologically or physically in form of anxiety, pain, stress or leading to low self esteem. The information and the findings should also be treated with confidentiality as they document the life of the participants (Beall, 2010). The information should not be published or included in any reports. It is important to ensure anonymity throughout the research and keep the identity of the participants unknown. The research identifies the main components to be used and it is important to only assess them and nothing else. The participants give consent to only what is documented and assessing anything else would be a contradiction of the agreement with the participants (Beall, 2010).

Problem Statement

While the main of this research is to keep contact with the alumni of York College, it is also important to note that the college is in need of funding. The Alumni of the college can better assist in terms of funding since they are more aware of the challenges the college might be facing. Furthermore, the college is considering using the details of older alumni to market itself. This is the reason why the college is considering assessing the personal information of the participants.

There are no better people to market a school than those who have studied in it. It is through their achievements that the college can boast of having qualified personnel and facilities. This research will try and prove that York College is a superior college and it keeps contacts with its alumni. The research will also prove that the older alumni are willing to support the college in its projects as well as in providing their personal information for evaluation.

Furthermore, the college has to institute a retirement program and there has to be consent from the participants. The main problem with the research is that the information gathered has to be confidential. Lack of confidentiality may see many alumni withdrawing from the project and this will be a downfall to the college. The research aims to incorporate many alumni who will fit into the chosen fields and they have to allow an evaluation of their income bracket, job titles and home locations for them to be considered worthy participants.

Objectives of the Research

By conducting this research, the college hopes that it will be able to gather information from the old alumni. The York College also hopes that more old alumni will join the association every year. The main objective of instituting an alumni project is to market the school as well as to receive funding. The research will also lay down a picture about the living conditions of the alumni together with their income brackets. The York College will use the information it gathers from the research in assessing its potential as an institution (Donald & Schindler, 2013).

The retirement community to be established will involve the old alumni and will therefore be an achievement on the side of the college. Furthermore, the old alumni will be used to boost the enrollment in the college and the college hopes that with time the number of students will increase. After the research, there are chances that the number of old alumni enrolling for the program will increase. This is after the association ensures that the information collected is kept confidential and the names of the participants remain anonymous.

With a high number of alumni joining the retirement program, the college hopes to get the required license to run the program. After this, the college may consider adjusting the age bracket to ensure that more alumni are able to enroll into the program. This would facilitate increased funding and marketing of the college and chances are that there might be government intervention to fund the project on behalf of the retirees. The college hopes that the results of the research will assist it in achieving its objectives.
