How tim hortons have launched mobile app more ethically

Assignment task:

It was discovered that Tim Hortons (Tim's), the multinational restaurant chain monitored its customers by gathering location data of users that downloaded the Tim Hortons mobile app.

What was not known at the time is that Tim's was tracking and collecting the location of users' devices. This determined the location of a user's home and place of work, showed when they were travelling, and identified when the user was visiting a Tim Hortons competitor.? However, the app did not obtain valid consent to use location data.

The chain claimed that the information collected would be used to deliver targeted ads promoting their products. Instead, the restaurant chain used the information for marketing purposes.

Assume you generated the following alternatives (G) using the EGAD method to deal with the ethical dilemma faced in this case:

G1 - Before the launch, Tim's decides to disclose the tracking and location feature of the mobile application only to internal stakeholders in case there are any public complaints

G2 - Tim's discloses the tracking and location feature of the mobile application to all stakeholders before launch

G3 - Tim's ensures that all stakeholders are aware that the app tracks location anytime the phone is on, not just when the app is open

G4 - Tim's discloses that the app will only track for competition data
