How the writer could have improved their work accurately

Discussion Post

As we've seen, websites, magazines, newspapers, and other profit-driven forms of media are in intense competition to attract eyeballs for their advertisers. Consequently, there is often a temptation for their writers and editors to sensationalize the topics they're writing about. This phenomenon applies to everything that is written about, including research findings. You've undoubtedly seen these clickbait-y headlines before - they often scream about "this one great trick!" for losing weight, or how eating a particular food will improve your health, and so on. Your task this week is to find one such webpage that is reporting on a correlational study but that mischaracterizes those correlational results as implying that one variable is causing a change in the other. Provide the link in your original post along with your summary of what they wrote. Track down the original research article that they're describing and highlight the ways in which the study was mischaracterized. Then offer your input on how the writer/editor could have improved their work to more accurately reflect the science they reported on. You can find your target article anywhere, but I can recommend this and this as good places to start.

The response should include a reference list. One-inch margins, Using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, double-space and APA style of writing and citations.
