Problem: From 1750-1914, machines came to frame human life, shape values, organize institutions, and even alter human biological functions. Machines were also key to the Industrial Revolution. The machine demonstrated that the material world could be engineered to produce desired outcomes.  In Tamim Asary's book, he talks about how "the machine," as a metaphor, could use the same approach to solve social problems.
