How much should be cut off from free length of spring

A helix compression spring is manufactured using the following parameters:

OD=1.00

ID=.790

(wire dia 0.105)

Fo = 40.49 lbf (operating force)

Lo = 2.68 (operating length)

Fi = 32.650 (Force at installed length)

Li = 3.30 (Installed length

Active Coils 18.436

Total Coils 20.436

Material: Stainless 17-7 with 27449psi as Minimum Tensile Strength

a) Find how much should be cut off from free length of the spring to reduce the Fo from 40.49 to 31.3 lbf? Assuming that the lengths of Lo and Li stay the same.

b) Find the Fi that is a result of the Fo.
