Problem: Mediation offers a method of approaching conflict resolution between nations or states or individuals. Our course content for the week describes that there can be several different outcomes to mediation, being treaties, organizations, agreements, and obligations (James 2025). There are factors that contribute to a state being more or less likely to be receptive to mediation as well, this requires examination of the current state of a nation, along with the gains and losses of the agreement to each state. This converges with peacekeeping as peacekeeping involves maintaining a state of lack of violence by peacekeepers. Praeger Security International defines peacekeeping as moving a state away from violence and being appropriate in nature (Nan 2025). An example of a successful UN peacekeeping mission was in Mozambique from 1992 to 1994. The UN was able to found a new government, and help reinstate peace during Mozambique's Civil War. However, a failure on the other hand was in Rwanda where they were unable to successfully prevent the Rwandan genocide of 1994. This shows that there can be successful and unsuccessful missions from UN peacekeeping. Largely the newest factor introduced into peacekeeping is the training standard that UN peacekeeping is establishing. Send Respond To This Peer And With Citation. Need Assignment Help?
