In paper, the student is expected to evaluate how our understanding and definition of delinquency has changed. Who creates this definition of delinquency? Is it society as a whole or segments of society? If segments, what segments? Also, each generation routinely makes comments about how juveniles are "out of control" and not as "well-mannered" as juveniles of the past. What leads to this perspective? Does the data support this? Lastly, in what ways is the labeling of an individual as a delinquent used to suppress individuals or groups while benefitting others in society?
The paper must be completed using the APA format and include a title page, body of the paper, and reference page (use 12 pt Times New Roman). Paper should be 3 pages of sufficient depth and detail while reflecting the true potential of each student (i.e., don't settle for minimal quality!). Each student should use at least 5 scholarly sources to support their work (the course textbook can be used as one of the scholarly references). News media sources, websites (including governmental websites), etc., are not considered to be scholarly sources as they do not go through a peer-reviewed process. Non-scholarly sources can be used for the paper but students should also have the minimum of 5 scholarly sources.
