How important is staff motivation to successful leadership

What is leadership? The author of your first reading describes three leadership models that, individually, may fit different circumstances, but together define a contemporary leader working to sustain success in a fast-changing world.

Did your view of leadership conform to any one of the three models Fisher described? Which one and why?

How important is staff motivation to successful leadership in each of the three models? Which is more important -- 1) economic motivation (i.e. merit raises, performance bonuses, etc.), or 2) psychological motivation (i.e. feeling part of a team that is achieving something meaningful)?

If you could only have one or the other, which form of motivation would contribute more to sustaining a successful business -- 1) economic motivation or 2) psychological motivation? Why?
