How human life should best be lived

Problem

After reading Introduction: Thirteen Theories of Human Nature by Leslie Stevenson; David L. Haberman; Peter Matthews Wright; Charlotte Witt

Rival Theories and Critical Assessments, address the following by incorporating the materials and your own personal perspectives into your responses.

Part A: On pp. 1-2, the authors provide four definitions of human nature. Author a short paragraph (five to seven sentences - or more) explaining what each means. In what ways are each definition similar and dissimilar from the other definitions provided? Again, please rely upon the materials within the chapter to inform your responses, as well as your own personal perspectives.

a. A background metaphysical understanding of the universe and humanity's place in it.

b. A theory of human nature in the narrower sense of some distinctive general claims about human beings, human society, and the human condition.

c. A diagnosis of some typical defect in human beings, of what tends to go wrong in human life and society.

d. A prescription or ideal for how human life should best be lived, typically by offering guidance to individuals and human societies.

Part B: I call this my "3, 2, 1 activity". I would like you to list three things you learned from this material that are new to you, two things you might have already known at least something about, and one thing that you might not understand. A sentence or two for each should suffice.
