Assignment:
Discusses power and politics within organizations. Write a report that discusses the following questions:
1. In your opinion, how do reward power and coercive power compare in gaining compliance in an organization? Explain.
2. In your opinion, which of the five sources of organizational power - legitimate, reward, expert, referent, or information - is the easiest to live with as an employee? Explain.
3. Which of the five sources of power do you believe is generally the most effective in an organization? Explain. Are there circumstances in which this type of power might be rendered ineffective?
4. How does trust influence the use of power?
Keep in mind that, while there are no "absolutely correct" answers for these questions, this is not an opportunity for opinion alone. Grading will reflect your reasoning and critical thinking skills, your ability to integrate what you have assimilated from material presented in lecture, the textbook and other learning materials, the clarity of your response and its appearance. This report should be a minimum of 3 full pages (excluding cover page, references, attachments, etc.), double-spaced, using a 12-point font and 1-inch margins.
