How does the library select children books

Assignment:

Overview:

Libraries are an integral part of every community in the United States. Not only do they preserve history and contain vast collections of books and educational materials free for public use, but they also provide free community resources, internet, youth programs, classes, and more to help grow the economy and build healthier, smarter, and safer communities. However, with technology at our fingertips, it seems as though many of us have forgotten the value of having free access to these resources and have lost touch with our local libraries and all they have to offer us.

Instructions:

For this assignment, you will take a trip to your local library, take pictures, interview a children's librarian, and reflect on your experience.

You can choose how you would like to present this information - perhaps by creating a PowerPoint, a collage, creating an infographic poster, or attaching photos directly to the discussion. Whichever way you decide to create it, your visual representation must include the following:

• Pictures: Include one (1) photo of the outside of the building, one (1) photo of the Children's Section of the library, and one (1) photo of your personal library card (now is a great time to get one if you don't have one already).

• Interview Children's Librarian: How does the library select children's books? What are upcoming events/activities for children? What are some other programs and resources available to the public through the library?

• Reflect on Your Experience: Reflect on your experience with this assignment. How has your opinion on libraries changed? Why are libraries an integral part of our society? How can schools make better use of public libraries?
