• In what ways do organizations ethics programs make it easier to both see ethical dilemmas and to make the preferred choices?

Ethical programs set a standard of the ethical environment of the organization and for the employees. These programs also sensitize employees to the potential legal issues that could be within the organization. Having this program set also helps employees make better ethical decisions when issues do arise because they already have an idea of the standard, they are expected to withhold in the organization due to the ethical program they are all familiar with. These programs allow for consistent decisions, enforcements, and necessary disciplinary action within the organization. They also can deter legal complications.

• How does Opportunity influence the ethical choices made?

Opportunity can influence an employee to act in certain ways. Having an ethical program set up gives the employee a standard of what Is expected, whereas a weak ethical program allows for an unethical employee to act unethically.

• How effectively is your organization using the elements of a productive ethics program?

The organization I work for has a very long and detailed code of conduct on how we as contractors are expected to behave and represent our company to the department we work for. Since we do work for the DON, we are expected to follow all of their rules, trainings, as well as the added but similar code of conduct from the company that employs us. They also enforce a very long list of trainings both from the DON and from the company themselves. Since we are working within a military department the company piggybacks a lot from the military's code of ethics and trainings, but since we are representing a hired company, we must follow the military's code of conducts and training programs along with the specific company's requirements as well.

• Using the concept of four types of organizational culture, which is the dominant culture in your organization and how does it impact the ethical choices made?

The dominant way of the organization I work for is that everyone has their own place. Essentially it is just like the military aspect of a chain of command. Each person knows their roles and responsibilities and what is expected from them. This impacts the way that choices are made in a way that if someone on the lower end of the chain of command acts unethically there are going to be consequences from higher within the chain of command.
